Why do I need cookies?

YouTube blocks automated downloads with "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot" errors. Cookies from your logged-in browser prove you're a real user and bypass this protection.

Reducing Bot Detection

To minimize cookie refresh frequency, we've implemented:

  • Search Caching: Results cached for 5 minutes to reduce API calls
  • Rate Limiting: Minimum 2 seconds between searches
  • Smart Cookie Usage: Cookies only used for downloads, not searches

Configure YouTube authentication to avoid bot detection errors.

You should only need to do this if you manually copied files to the download directory while pikaraoke was running.

If downloads or searches stopped working, updating youtube-dl will probably fix it. The current installed version is: "2025.10.22"

This update link above may fail if you don't have proper file permissions. Check the pikaraoke log for errors.
